# Excel – The interface & advanced Formulae

• What is a formula? (a mathematical equation that works calculations for us.)
• What is the advantage of using formulae in excel?
1. the formula will be written only once but the values can be changed. Each time we change the values, excel re-calculates the answer automatically.
2. We can write multiple formulae on the same data.
3. We can set a range of cells in a formula
• A formula always starts with an = sign.

Short notes and definitions:

• Labels (Describe data)
• Values (numbers)
• Rows (horizontal)
• Columns (vertical)
• Cell (one square entry)
• Formulae (must be preceded by an = sign)

Insertion of data:

1. Select cell where the answer will be displayed
2. Type in =SUM(C3:C6)
• Insert an average function
1. Select cell where the answer will be displayed
2. Type in =AVERAGE(C3:C6)
• Insert MIN / MAX function
1. Select cell where the answer will be displayed
2. Type in =MIN(C3:C6) / =MAX(C3:C6)
